The European Green Party announces the 40th Congress, which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 5 to 7 December 2025. This key event will bring together hundreds of delegates from Green parties, national and local leaders, activists, civil society representatives, and supporters of the Green movement from across the continent.
The first day of the Congress, Friday, will be fully dedicated to internal decision-making processes and strategic planning. On Saturday, a broad public programme will take place, open to partners, civil society organisations and invited high-level guests. Participants will engage in discussions on the current political agenda, exchange experiences, and develop joint initiatives for the future of Europe.
The Congress is being held at a time when Europe is facing both serious challenges and new opportunities. The Green movement remains a leading political force in shaping responses to the climate crisis, protecting the environment, human rights, democracy and the rule of law, as well as countering the rise of the far right.
The 40th Congress will highlight the maturity and significance of the European Greens as a political force capable of building progressive coalitions and expanding its influence across Europe, including on the Iberian Peninsula.
“Our Congress in Lisbon will serve as a platform to strengthen cooperation, discuss common challenges, and reaffirm our commitment to building a sustainable, fair, and democratic future for all people in Europe,” the organisers noted.
Based on the outcomes of the 40th Congress, the European Green Party — together with political partners, civil society representatives, supporters and journalists — will define the movement’s development priorities for the coming years and strengthen ties within the European Green community.
