Baytaq grew out of the Baytaq-Bolashaq environmental movement, founded in 2015 by Azamatkhan Amirtayev together with like-minded supporters.
To add authority and draw attention to the initiative, Olzhas Suleimenov was invited. He was the leader of the international anti-nuclear movement Nevada-Semipalatinsk, known for its fight to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

The alliance worked on environmental projects, held congresses and public campaigns against environmentally harmful activity by major companies, including Tengizchevroil. This movement formed the core of activists and supporters from which the political party later grew.

The idea of creating an official green party emerged after successful work within the alliance. The first application to the Ministry of Justice for party registration was submitted in 2019.
Over four years, the party submitted documents 18 times until, on August 23, 2022, it finally received permission to hold its founding congress.
The congress was held on September 23, 2022 in Almaty, with 1,450 delegates from all regions of Kazakhstan taking part. After the congress, the party gathered more than 40,000 members and submitted documents for registration.

On November 28, 2022, the party officially received state registration, and within the following month 20 regional branches were created.

In February 2023, Baytaq took part in parliamentary elections for the first time, nominating about 200 candidates: 30 for the Mazhilis and 170 for maslikhats at different levels.
According to the election results, the party received 146,431 votes, about 2.3%. This was not enough to pass the threshold, but it became a significant political debut and the first step toward systematic participation in the country’s political life.

By November 2025, the party had more than 110,000 members and 30 deputies in maslikhats at different levels, including in Astana and Almaty.
Baytaq actively cooperates with a number of international environmental and green organizations, including the Green Party of Mongolia, the Green Party of Kyrgyzstan, European green parties, and also works with the Communist Party of China on ecology and sustainable development.

The party continued promoting environmental initiatives, developing regional branches and strengthening cooperation with public and international organizations.
The party ran an active election campaign, presented its program, met voters in the regions and promoted an environmental and social agenda among citizens of Kazakhstan.
